Amsterdam Burlesque Fest 2010 Opening Gala

From time to time I would like to introduce some of the events, for which all of the named designers create their burlesque fashion. Last weekend the “Panamarbar” in Amsterdam offered its visitors quite a special show. The second Burlesque Festival of Amsterdam in 2010 attracted vintage lovers, burlesque icons and retro enthusiasts and directed them the way into the wonderful city. On the stage of Panamarbar a firework of burlesque stage outfits was released and even parts of the audience presented enchanting fascinators, cute corsets and a small choice of burlesque tights and leg fashion.

My outfit for that weekend was created by a designer from Berlin, who owns a small studio in Torstraße. TomTo corsets, along with Revanche de la femme and RedCat7, belongs to my absolute favorites and it was only due to my luck and a lot of charming begging and pleasing that Tonia’s studio spontaneously created a custom made piece for me.

Just when the dark and raspy voice of wonderful Confrenciers Armitage Shanks sounded through, even the lasts guests took their seats on folding chairs and foldaway seats, since the event again was well attended at the second year. Next to classic and elegant burlesque feather dances, there was a lot of artistry, comedy, striptease and the already mentioned, unique Armitage Shanks, who had three live performances in that nights. Simply awesome!!!

Coming to the topic of fashion, there were many outstanding characters, e.g. Miss Mama Ulita, who was on stage in even two sensational burlesque costumes, of which I know were made with much passion and dedication. And of course, I have to mention Xarah from “Vielenregen”, who as well wore an impressing asian burlesque outfit and the wonderful Koko la Rouge in a self-knitted nude outfit. Just buxom and divine! The Amsterdam Burlesque Festival now seems to have stepped out of the shadow of its big sister, the London burlesque week, and has found huge mass appeal and lots of fans in Holland’s most beautiful city. I’m already looking forward to the Amsterdam Burlesque Festival of 2011. See you there!!
